Kris Schmolze is an artist and musician born in Philadelphia, attended the Kansas City Art Institute, and has lived across the United States before settling in Portland, OR.
He is a practicing painter and print-maker. His recent work often explores abstract painting, drawing inspiration from science, technology, and nature, investigating color relationships derived from imagery found in the natural world.
He grew up singing in a folk music community and learned acoustic guitar, later expanding his performance to bass, drums, electric guitar, and synthesizer. His musical performances have spanned various genres, including afro-beat, alt-rock, ambient, circuit-bent, experimental sound, improvisational jazz, marching band, and noise music.
